Tidal Out and About: Community Contact This Winter

At Tidal Family Support, our work extends beyond the Centre. Throughout the winter season and half term, our team has been out and about across the Isle of Wight, supporting families through our Community Contact service.

Community Contact allows children and families to spend time together in carefully chosen, risk-assessed community settings, creating more natural and relaxed opportunities to build relationships, while still ensuring safeguarding and professional oversight.

Where We’ve Been
Over the half term and winter period, our team has supported families at a range of local and mainland venues, including:

The Wildheart Sanctuary
A calm, engaging environment where children could explore wildlife, ask questions and enjoy shared experiences outdoors.

Quarr Abbey
A peaceful setting ideal for walking, talking and spending quality time together in a less pressured environment.

Amazon World
Making use of the resident offer, families were able to enjoy a fun, accessible day out that many might not otherwise be able to afford.

Ryde Library
A familiar, inclusive space supporting quieter connection, shared reading and creative activities.

Gunwharf Quays
For older children and families, this provided an opportunity to navigate public spaces together, build confidence and enjoy time out in a real-life setting.

These venues were selected to suit each family’s individual needs, including the age of the children and any identified risks, helping to create positive, meaningful experiences.

Working in Partnership
With the support of our local Isle of Wight partners, who offer discounted rates or access to family-friendly venues, we’re able to provide opportunities that many families might not otherwise be able to afford.

Community Contact also allows our team to observe family interaction in a more organic setting, helping to inform ongoing reviews and support families to move forward safely and positively.

Even during the colder months, Tidal remains committed to supporting children and families, wherever that support is needed.
